Does nfs://<address> work from the location bar?
no

What is the link in
your working desktop shortcut?

192.168.1.xx:/<directory>

This link is taken from /etc/fstab and the "shortcut" is a special TDE link
(right click on the desktop - create new -> link to device -> nfs)

two more options

Have you tried the applet "storage media" in trinity?
possibly adding a panel, autohidable or not, transparent, small etc....
also, you can add a custom menu on a mouse click over the desktop.
