Hmm, so it's in the "Navigation panel" that I don't use. If I  show the panel 
I can create a folder and even give nfs://<address> but all I get is a yellow 
rotating wheel.

Yes, *that* is a *big* Linux problem: any "network" access proposed is ftp, 
http or Samba. I have tools to access ftp and http, I don't use Samba as I 
have no Windows around. I do have an nfs network.

Of course mounting the shares is no problem at the command line, I just find 
TDE's option to mount them from an icon on the desktop (and knowing easily if 
the share is mounted or not) a great benefit.

Under Gnome I have dock (dash) icons that let me mount and umount with one 
click, but I loose the information as to what is mounted.

I guess nfs is mostly used to mount server shares from desktop clients, so 
they are mounted at boot. With laptops I perfer to mount when I need.
