Wonderful!  I edited .Xresources (or rather, created it) with 48 and we are 
almost home and dry.  I haven't bothered with the gnome stuff for this 
particular application, since I don't think he will be using any (I'll cross 
that bridge if I have to do so!) but I may use it for myself. ;-)  Thank you 
very much, Nik. 

I assume that if that is still not big enough for him, I can use, say, 72?
