We could, but I don't think it's worth the additional headaches when
just prepending "user:" guarantees no clashes, differentiates them from
builtin backstores, but keeps them the same color. so I'm happy with
just doing that.

That work. And it makes it one bit clearer for the user. So to recap:

+-- backstores
|-- block
|-- fileio
|-- pscsi
|-- ramdisk
|-- user:file                (externally managed)
+-- user:glfs                (externally managed)
