The Surface Transportation Board today announced that Christensen
Associates, a Wisconsin-based economic consulting firm, will update its
report on the state of rail-industry competition.

The original report, A Study of Competition in the U.S. Freight
Railroad Industry and Analysis of Proposals that Might Enhance
Competition, released last November, was completed before data
from 2007 and 2008 were available.

Christensen was chosen by the Board in September 2007 to
provide a comprehensive analysis of a wide range of issues in
the freight rail industry, including competition, capacity, and
the interplay between the two. In addition to incorporating the
latest economic data, the update will also make some technical
            corrections to the report.

The update, which will cost the Board $125,000, will be
            delivered in Fall 2009.

                                          ###
