I'd suggest testing by using the config file from 1.4.22 directly in
1.4.23.  I think the new settings in 1.4.23 will default to sensible
values when they aren't in the config file.  I'd also suggest not
changing the $session_name setting in the config file; just make sure
not to be logged into 1.4.22 at the same time.

You might also benefit from the Cookie Warning plugin.  While you're
at it, the Check Login plugin is a good one to have.
