Hello, just for your information:

Final reply from Strato was their servers are okay and it looks like a SM problem. So we have tried installing SM on a fresh system without changing anything except the IMAP-Parameters, same result.

Funnily the error does never occur when using "Delete&Next" or "Delete&Prev", only when opening mails directly or using "Prev" and "Next", not only for unseen, but also for seen messages now.

We will probably switch to using an own IMAP-Server, but I'll try to get more info on this issue.
