I don't see this issue, either.  Mine fills out all the way to the
left.  You need to provide browser details and it would be most
helpful if you fiddled with the page source yourself to see if you can
find why your browser doesn't stretch it out all the way.

You are assuming this is 1.4.x.  The OP, as far as I know (based on
his other thread recently), is using 1.5.2.

As has been said before, 1.4.x will never get a face lift.  It is
*stable*, and we're leaving it that way for good reason.
