I don't know if this will be working... I use plain login (secure enough for me, just one switch between squirrel and imap server) and use the imap password for smtp authentification. Your setup seems similar to me, besides the TLS. Can you try enabling plain PWs and try to configure squirrel to use plain login? Just to rule out that the connection is working. second step then will be enabling tls. Did you check the other hints given? Roland. PS: just replying to the list will do...
