You'll find Postfix to be a lot nicer to work with. > dovecot or UWIMAP Any IMAP server EXCEPT UW-IMAP. On a personal system, UW-IMAP may be okay. But on a multi-user system with lots of mail, UW-IMAP will only lead to problems. Use Dovecot, Courier, Cyrus, or anything else. > 1) the mail box may go upto 2 to 4 gb in sizes.. > if i use mbox format is it OK or will it be a problem or do i need to > use maildir format Definitely do not use mbox for any system that will have folders with more than 100 messages or 100 MB of data. > 2) if i use UWIMAP server will it be a problem or do i have to use > dovecoat Don't use UW-IMAP. > 3) will squirrelmail 1.4.10a have any problem open such big mailboxes > or is there any limitation The limitation is the mailbox format. If you use an IMAP server that supports a "one message per file" format (like Maildir) and indexes each folder, then you will not have problems with large mailboxes. We use Cyrus, and my account has almost 2 GB of messages, with some folders that have over 15,000 messages in them. Opening these folders is a breeze, taking less than 10 seconds to open (the full mailbox) or less than 3 seconds to load just 100 message headers. -- Freddie Cash, LPIC-2 CCNT CCLP Network Support Technician School District 73 (250) 377-HELP [377-4357] fcash-ml@xxxxxxxxxx ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
