It's been a while since I used that plugin, but I swear it had an
automated option.  If not, it would not be hard to add one, although
this could cause a very long login delay and numerous support issues.
That (amongst other obvious reasons) is why it may be better to run
Fetchmail by cron on the server to gather external mails.

Getting mails from services that don't specifically offer POP3 or IMAP
is much more dicey in terms of whether or not you are violating any
terms of service and also just in technical terms, since, as with
Hotmail, I think it is done by what amounts to a screen-scrape, and is
therefore greatly impacted by even the smallest interface change by
Hotmail.  See:
