Oh ... I forgot to mention that this happens *only* with IE6.  As
indicated above it also only happens when using SSL.  IE7 and Firefox do
not exhibit this problem, nor do any Macintosh browsers.  So, I don't
really have much reason to suspect the server configuration.  For server
specifics ...
Solaris 10 running Apache/2.2.3 (Unix) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8d
PHP/5.1.6
