There are plugins to help make sure that does not happen, or you can
put it in your own system account setup script(s).

Not catty -- honest if blunt.  You described a situation where, from
what I could best tell (this is why posts with more detailed server
information are necessary), your IMAP server logins were of various
formats.  If that is the case, it makes it a LOT more difficult to set
up ancilliary software like this to give you *consistent*
functionality across a *inconsistent* configuration/setup.  The
addition to the discussion is the general idea that users cannot
always expect to gain robust solutions if the underlying system
architecture is not well thought out.
