What is the syntax? cachemgr_password (and then the password)?
I am still getting this message:

http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/2.6/cachemgr-passwd.html
(3.x is the same)
squid.conf:
'cachemgr_passwd' <password> [ 'all' | <option> ... ]
cmd line:
'squidclient mgr:<option>@<password>'

Doing a google search I cant find that directive, does it even exist?
Do you mean cachemgr_passwd?
No, kinkie meant 'cachemgr_passwd'
If squidmgr_password does exist as a directive, what is it used for?
Without it 'squidclient mgr:menu' lists a few things like shutting down
squid, displaying the config as 'hidden' and non-usable.
When its used, the mgr:menu changes the relevant objects to 'protected'
and you can use the password to run those commands using squidclient.

I could not find a squidmgr_password in our squid.conf file. I tried
the
command omitting the -W switch. It asked for a WWW password. I tried a
few passwords, including the root password. No joy. I also tried
entering the following line at the end of our squid.conf file:
squidmgr_password squid
I restarted the squid service and tried again. Again, no joy.
How do I (and what is the syntax) to add a password to the squid.conf
file? After I make the changes, I need to restart the service /
computer, correct?
Thanks,
Mike

when I type the command "squidclient mgr:info" this is
the result... Is this how I get to the cache manager DNS page (the
machine is not running apache...)?
[root@proxy1 ~]# squidclient mgr:info
client: ERROR: Cannot connect to localhost:3128: Connection refused
squidclient -h <host> -p <port> -U admin -W <squidmgr_password>
cache_object://<host>/<page>
where you have to replace the brackets with the relevant values. The
squidmgr_password can be found in your squid.conf file.
