10 or so should be fine for most uses, but users who have ever installed a "download accelerator" is likely to get bitten as these often uncaps the IE limitation on the number of concurrent connections making the browser very aggressive in downloading inline objects..
Note: People going abouve the limit won't be sloved down, their requests will simply be rejected, causing broken images etc in their page display if bitten during normal browsing.
