A small note...
I think neither faxmodem owners nor SIP phone (incl. softphone) owners
should suffer because of co-existense of PSTN and SIP. All interoperability
problems must be handled in gateways. At least, each gateway must implement
fax, text, and packet data. For instance, T.38, T.140, and L2TP for
tunneling PPP packets. This list is purely my
opinion, of course. It is based on my experience as of a faxmodem owner :)
