To clarify,

I did a reverse name lookup on that ip address, which came back with the host 
name whois.ripe.net. I wasn't suggesting you do a whois search just that the 
host whois.ripe.net is registered in DNS at the ip address you specified.

When I traceroute, it times out at psie.net - some European company (I'm in 
Australia and guessing it's some sort of backbone). Your traceroute probably 
times out at some point that is blocking the traffic (just a guess) - in this 
case the Gulf of Guinea. 

Although...

Your in Germany right? When you say the Gulf on Guinea, do you mean in 
Africa? If so, I doubt packets from Germany to Amsterdam would travel though 
Africa. Lets hope not anyway!
