rsync is one possibility. Another one could be to write some scripts
which do a tar cvf backup.tar /bin /boot /dev /etc /usr [...] (don`t
forget to _exclude_ proc from your backup); later on a bzip2 -9 backup.tar
and then copy the files via scp on another system.
