Hi all, it started when Ismael posted the Analogize script, then i noticed he had a German web page in some kind of source forge-like management system... which set me thinking ... hmm... how about giving source forge a try and see what it is like ? So after a few days of tinkering with it, here is a look at the project page i set up .. Hope you can see it, because their CVS server is facing some problems lately (but generally response from their help desk seems to be very good) http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/lasmz/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/lasmz/ Here's some plus points about the source forge system : 1) "Unlimited" screen shots space !! Ha Ha.. i'm a kind of visual guy, so i like to see the screen before i'll download something.. Compared to the photos area of yahoogroups, we have a couple photos and it's already hitting 15%.. 2) Frees up file management space from your PC, don't need to worry about hard disk crash, let the good source forge people worry about that !! 3) Packaging. Won't it be nice if you can just download ONE and only ONE tarball/zip and unzip it to get the collection of the latest versions of your favourite scripts running up in no time ? 4) Versioning. Without CVS, i use something like file-name-1.0.scm, file-name-2.0.scm ... Works fine ! but takes up a lot of disk space! With CVS, throw away the backup, you can always get another copy from the server.. 5) keep the file name simple ! All different versions are managed by CVS but the file name stays the same : file-name.scm So you can get the latest version, just by overiding it, instead of deleting a lot of old versions. Some potential problem, 1) still need to keep different version names to store in the Files archive at yahoogroup, otherwise the version is not apparent until you open the file to look.. any comments? ------------------------ Yahoo!
