I'm using (exactly) the "kernel.img" file I got from ftp.redhat.de, 
which identifies itself via uname() as 
"2.4.9-13BOOT #1 SMP Tue Nov 6 13:53:59"
The filesize is  2770432, dated nov 8 05:36
I'm also using the initrd.img file, same date, size 3033335

The original console data that I gave yesterday was with an older kernel:

This is using "loader"  as the /etc/motd messages states.
I had better luck running "rhsetup"
