Can you explain the wget problems a little bit more ? Was the path in the newt screen displayed correctly ? Or was it just wget which failed ? I ask because I just tested it with and without a double slash and couldn't reproduce the problem. wget converts the double slash into /%2F and doesn't care about it anymore.
