Thanks for all your help.

I installed my first RPM in our development servers and so far so good.
Still some minor work needs to be done, but I can complete them
on next releases.

I guess you know what you are getting yourself into, so just for
everyone else' entertainment:

rpm 3.0.5 was released in July 2000 with 3.0.6 released in September of
the same year. This means that the this version is from the Red Hat
Linux 7 days and is much closer to the beginnings of rpm in the year
1994 than the present day.

It also means that every contemporary advice on rpm has basically a
50/50 chance of being of any help.
