In regard to: Re: [rpm-list] problems compiling rpm on solaris, Edward...:
Kevin - I think I might need that recipe of yours after all if you've still
got it?!
I managed to compile rpm 4.1 using gcc (the source was provided on the
opensolaris website), but this is dependent on libgcc and I want a version I
can distribute to other boxes.
When I tried to build with the c forte compiler I got a few errors in the
tools subdirectory and successfully patched those, or at least thought I had,
but now when I try to run rpm --install, I get a bus error!
I've downloaded from cvs too, but that didn't create the Makefiles in my
libelf, neon, popt and beecrypt subdirs. I was wondering if there's a site
where I can download rpm 4.4.7 and give that a try?
Yes:
ftp://ftp.wraptastic.org/pub/rpm-4.4.x
for 4.4.7,
ftp://ftp.wraptastic.org/pub/rpm-devel
for the 4.4.8 snapshots.
If you go with 4.4.7, you'll want to check the archives for the rpm-devel
list:
https://lists.dulug.duke.edu/mailman/listinfo/rpm-devel
Start here:
https://lists.dulug.duke.edu/pipermail/rpm-devel/2006-October/thread.html
You'll see a post from Jeff indicating that "rpm-4.4.7 was released last
week".
Shortly after that, I start submitting patches, search for my name and
then follow the thread to find each post 4.4.7 patch that Jeff actually
rolled into what will be 4.4.8.
Several of them help with build issues, a couple help with post-build
issues.
