Macros aren't the right solution.
Suggests looks interesting to reduce dependency bloat if/when the
frontends support the tag.

The patch to ignore unknown tokens like "hint" is perhaps
easier, and having
Suggests: devolve to Requires: for versions of rpm that don't support
"hint" is
arguably the best way to retrofit functionality.
The real problem is that Suggests: is mechanism only, only cAos (and
KainX's mezzanine)
have an understanding of how to use Suggests: with discipline.
All that apt does with Suggests: is print a message, perhaps not the
most intelligent
implementation.
