And ctrl-c it after it expands the package.

Oops, you're right. And I made exactly that error earlier today and had to fix my command line.

To modify an SRPM, you use "rpm -i kernel.src.rpm" to "install" it to the packaging tree, then run "rpmbuild -bp kernel.spec" on the resulting spec file.
