Thanks for the input. But I cannot do it since, I am way behind in updating the packages due to the "update" problems now I cannot update "update" :-) Current update version downloaded from RHN: up2date-4.4.50-4 My installed version: up2date-4.4.5.6-2 So I have been getting the error using rpm: error: Failed dependencies: up2date = 4.4.50 is needed by up2date-gnome-4.4.50-4.x86_64
Which means that you need to update that package too, at the same time (as part of the same transaction). In other words, don't do just rpm -Fvh up2date-4.4.50-* do this: rpm -Fvh up2date-4.4.50-* up2date-gnome-4.4.50* When that complains that it's missing something (up2date-libs or something), download that package and add it to the end of the command line. There may be a few more packages that are needed in addition to those two, but the list should be relatively small (10 or less, I would imagine). The important thing is to update them all at once.
I tried setting the MALLOC_CHECK_ flag to 0 and 1. But I didn't get any farther.
How did you set it? MALLOC_CHECK_=1 export MALLOC_CHECK up2date-nox Like that?
