Embedded hyphens in the Version of kernel RPMs

Hello all,

I have a problem building kernel RPMS with rpmbuild.

I am trying to use the kernel source derived from the standard kernel-source-2.4.20-18.7.i386.rpm to build a boot kernel RPM called kernel-BOOT-2.4.20-18.7.i386.rpm (i.e. named exactly like the format of the generally distributed one) such that

  rpm -qp MYRPM.rpm

produces the result

kernel-BOOT-2.4.20-18.7

The key issue is with the embedded '-' sign in the the 'Version:' part of the RPM's spec file. rpmbuild refuses te let me include '-' in this entry so how in heavens does it end up in the standard rpms I find everywhere on the internet ?

Regards,

John
