In regard to: Invalid package name?, Albert Chin said (at 10:52am on May...:
Is it legal to have two packages with the same common name but a
different revision:
foo-1.1 /opt/foo11
foo-1.2 /opt/foo12
foo-1.3 /opt/foo13
This shouldn't be any problem. RH systems typically have multiple
packages with the same name (kernel and/or kernel-smp) but different
versions (or releases) installed. As long as there are no file conflicts
between the two packages, it shouldn't matter.
I've personally had no problems installing multiple versions of a package
with the same name, but I'm using an older version of RPM. The only
area of difficulty is when you want to upgrade a particular instance
of a package.
