rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) error

Hello,

I have a RedHat 6.2 server with rpm-3.0.4-0.48 installed. I'm trying to upgrade it to rpm-4 and I keep getting this error. 

srv-lee-5:/home/caltman# rpm -Uvh rpm-4.0.4-6x.21.i386.rpm popt-1.6.4-6x.21.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 is needed by rpm-4.0.4-6x.21
        rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 is needed by popt-1.6.4-6x.21

I cannot get around this error. I have searched the archives on this list and had no luck finding anyone with this problem. Anybody got any ideas?
