This appears to be a BIOS/kernel interaction of some sort. Aside
from not having a PnP BIOS option, is there a BIOS option to
specifically enable/disable the sound device?
Unfortunately not.
The BIOS options are reduced to the max. If you like to have a look,
here is a link to the bios software guide, with pictures of the BIOS settings (page 35 and following)
