[Sound] Anyone have any idea why,

once I installed alsa, my sparkling, new Soundblaster Audigy 2 gives all 
appearances of having no problems, EXCEPT... it produces no sound? 
(And, worse, for a reason I don't understand, the alsa lists no longer 
seem to confirm my subscribe requests.  Hoping to hear from the list 
admin on that.)
