Does someone have experiences with SMC 10 MBit Card (using DECchip 21041)
and 3Com EtherLink XL PCI (3C900-COMBO)???

I have RedHat 9 here, which does not autodect them and I wonder if they
are broken or if I must configure them by hand - and if yes, how?

The 3c900 combo did work for me (some time ago, before I upgraded it to a 905 combo).

You could check with lsmod if the network device modules are loaded
(tulip or de4x5 for the decchip card or 3c59x for the 3com) or use the
ifconfig command to see if the cards are configured?
thanks for this tip, it directed me into the right way. With modeprobe 3c59x and later on with ifconfig I got at least the 3c900 working.

Funny: The autodetection seems to depend on the motherboard: Wheras the SMC-card (DECChip 21041 based) is autodetected on a newer Compaq it is NOt autodetected on an older 100 MHz UNISYS.

For the drivers: There is a program called slinky-detect on http://www.rule-roject.org. It is a floppybased minilinux which detects hardware and told me, what drivers to use with modeprobe. Even a tokenringadapter was detected and the coresponding driver named. Just if someone has ever a similar problem.
