I installed the rpm acroread-5.08-2.i386.rpm
(http://www.gurulabs.com/downloads.html) , and did not notice any
problem. I don't remember having to change any option.

Left click on a pdf file gives me Acrobat / ggv / xpdf on Nautilus.

I don't know if it helps.
