I'm just getting started with Linux. The bash command recall seems to be very simple compared to what I'm used to. Bash only allows up and down arrows to scroll through the entire .bash_history file one command at a time.
What I miss the most is the powerful command line recall and editing I'm used to from 4DOS, 4NT, and TCMD. See http://jpsoft.com/help/cmdhist.htm for full details.
By typing part of a previously used command, and then pressing the up or down arrows, scrolling is limited to only those command which match the letters that have been typed. (The history can also be configured to eliminate storing duplicates of commands that are re-executed.)
I'm looking for similar functionality in Linux.
Is there a Linux shell that has features as described or that can be modified to provide such features?
