Hi all,

I have been using kernel 2.6 from arjan rpms site sice 2.6-test4 and
they work great! thanks arjan.

Up to kernel 2.6 test7, sound was working ok with no errors. Some time later, I updated to test11 and now to final 2.6.0-1.104 and I'm now getting on my volume control:

"Couldn't open mixer device /dev/sound/mixer"

Somewhere around test8, they changed the way kernel refers to character devices. Previously kernel tried to load char-major-xx, but now it tries char-major-xx-yy (where xx is a major device number and yy is minor number).

You should change in /etc/modprobe.conf line

alias char-major-14 <something>
to
alias char-major-14-* <something>

to make it work.

Thanks very much!
It worked like a charm :)

Just a little question: how did you know this? do you work with kernel, or did you read somewhere else? I'd like to know so I can check if I get some other problems.
