kernel 2.6 and /dev/sound/mixer not found

Hi all,

I have been using kernel 2.6 from arjan rpms site sice 2.6-test4 and they work great! thanks arjan.

Up to kernel 2.6 test7, sound was working ok with no errors. Some time later, I updated to test11 and now to final 2.6.0-1.104 and I'm now getting on my volume control:

"Couldn't open mixer device /dev/sound/mixer"

whenever I start the desktop.

I found some helpful tips here: http://linuxquestions.org/questions/history/120468

and so, my sound now just works if I do modprobe snd-mixer-oss.

I'd like to know what changed from test-7 to test11 and final and what could I do to have the sound mixer working again.

Also, if it is related, instructions for getting ALSA working with this new kernel are very welcome!

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Francisco Figueiredo Jr.
