no i dont mean a floppy disk... i mean the actual drive in and out of
the computer. it sounds like a hardware problem to me (linux should pick
up pretty much any floppy disk drive in existence)

make sure the cable is plugged into the back of the floppy drive inside
the computer. also make sure the power cable for it works. i have also
seen people put the ribbon cable for the floppy on upside down at the
back of the floppy drive.

recompiling floppy support as a module sounds like a very drastic
measure. as i said, linux should have no problems once the hardware
works and is plugged in and powered up properly.
