Uh,Oh! The thread has gone out of the way. The issue here is not if the
primary should fall within a particular range but the no. of heads win
needs to read the partition table. Here is my current part. table:

 Disk /dev/hde: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
 Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

     Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
     /dev/hde1   *         1        32    257008+  83  Linux
     /dev/hde2            33        64    257040   83  Linux
     /dev/hde3            65      2167  16892347+   7  HPFS/NTFS
     /dev/hde4          2169      9728  60725700    f  Win95 Ext'd (LBA)
     /dev/hde5          2169      2315   1180746   83  Linux
     /dev/hde6          2316      2462   1180746   82  Linux swap
     /dev/hde7          2463      5259  22466871   83  Linux
     /dev/hde8          5260      5384   1004031   82  Linux swap

Linux reverts back the no of heads to 16 if the partition table is
created by it, but then win or dos boot floppy is unable to read it.

Anyway, thanks for trying.

Regards,
