man logrotate
 
looks like it's supposed to get this job done.
 
logrotate with a config file just addressing your app's log files, fired nightly by cron, looks like a simple cure.

Hi:
      Anybody knows how to tell to syslog to swith a log file. We have
developed an application that sends logs to syslog ( the application is
GPL, of course :D ) but i'm interested in force switch log every night. Any
tips? Man sysllog.conf don't show anything :(
