Debian is not the alternative to Fedora, but not because of its
installation routine. It's community driven, too, and carries the same
problems as Fedora is this respect (or even a  bit more, because Fedora
is sponsered by a company - Red Hat -, Debian is not). The alternative
is SuSE and the United Linux Group. They might fill the gap.
