you also shouldn't need to uninstall if you just place the new build in a different directory. i did this on two machines with no issues, and so that i could keep a working copy in case i did have problems.

You don't have to uninstall if you download the rpm from the mozilla site and install that way.

Hi, there,
I don't know how to uninstall the Mozilla 1.2.1 from Linux because I
installed a new version 1.4.

Just upgrading to the 1.4 rpms will remove the old version (rpm -U)

does upgrading from 1.2 to 1.4 will retain all of its plugins?

I download a java pluggin from sun website, the file name is
j2re-1-4-2-01_linux-i586-rpm.bin, how to install this file, i can't
find it from sun.

Simply execute it. (you may need to fix permissions first) then install the resulting extracted rpm. Finally, cd to /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins and make a symbolic link as follows (must be a link, copying will not work)

ln -s
/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so .

To verify correctness, click on "about plugins" and see the java stuff
