Laptop Network Problem

I've installed Red Hat 9 on my Dell Latitude CPi laptop. When it boots up (or when I run "ifup eth0"), I get this message:

3c59x device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

According to the Windoze 2K hardware profile, my NIC is listed as

FEM656-3Com 10-100 LAN+56K Modem CardBus PC Card (Fast Ethernet)

I tried poking around a little bit. The "insmod 3c59x" command gives

 Using /lib/modules/2.4.20-20.9-awr1/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o
 /lib/modules/2.4.20-20.9-awr1/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o: init_module:
 No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

It seems to me that I have a problem with the 3c59x driver. However, I don't know enough to really interpret these messages. Would some kind soul put me on the path of enlightenment to fixing this problem?

Thanks!
