I have cups-1.1.17-13.3, I think because I've run 'up2date'.

Tony, I too have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 - I can print
in RHL9 with no problems.

I have KDE as my desktop - for printer configuration, I go to

Start => System Settings => Printing

this runs "printconf-gui". Here are my settings:

   Queue Type: Locally Connected

               /dev/lp0
/dev/usb/lp0 <=== this one is selected

Queue Options: I left these alone

Printer Driver: Stylus Photo 820 selected
   Available Drivers: gimp-print selected

Driver Options: I left these lone

That's it. If you made any changes, be sure to 'Apply'
the changes, make the printer the 'Default', and do
a 'Test'.

Not sure if this is necessary, but the changes above are
"System" changes. To make sure the Epson Photo 820
is the default for the user you are logged on as, go
to Start => Accessories => Print Manager, and be sure
the Epson has the checkmark on it signifying that it
is the default printer.

I think that's it. My 820 does work in RHL9 - hope this
solves your problem.
