Since the other printer attached to the print server is working, you probably are addressing it correctly ( <ip_address>:L1 or <ip_address:L2) , but check that anyway.

The problem was solved by using the Samsung ML-1200 driver in CUPS, setting it up as a networked LPD printer with its IP address and Port L2. My mistake previously had been to use the prescribed total Port address of PS567062_P2 that works with windows.
