Is that a real modem? Have you check out the linmodem site for drivers.
What have you done to get your modem working apart from configuring
wvdial. Is this a software modem or a genuine hardware modem.

I suspect the phrase "Xircom Credir Card Ethernet + 56K Modem" is too
vague, model number might help.
