Erhm, have you switched to troll-mode? :-/

Make clear what software you have installed right now and what
happens when you boot into run-level 5. Fvwm is not part of Red Hat
Linux 9, so apparently you have touched your system in a way you
need to describe. Tell us what you've modified/installed. Obviously,
for "gdm" to work, you need at least the gdm package and all its
dependencies.
