yes, you are right -- i reinstalled and switched back. i reinstalled last night
again. i did put gdm back in and it does work now -- one of the horrible things
about rh9 is the amount of garbage that comes with a package. there are several
packages that i choose without knowing all the dependencies. rh never lets me
deselect individual packages once they tell me of the dependencies....
