I think that Josh is right (I attached his replay below) - my modem probably
is not supported by Linux.
I have forgotten to mention earlier that I have the dual boot machine with
systems: RHL 9 and Windows 2000. Under Windows 2000 my modem works fine and
I have no problems with it, so it isn't broken.
When I run 'redhat-config-network' and it probes for modems, it displays the
message: "No modem was found on your system" although kudzu detects it:
