I can't make my modem work

Hi

I have the problem - I can't make my modem work. Can you help me ?
When I issue the following commands, I receive:

$ wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.53
--> Initializing modem.

--> Re-Sending: ATZ
--> Modem not responding.

$ wvdialconf
