That's a different problem. When I do "host -a gmu.edu" here I see no A records (IP addresses) and no MX records (hosts to route mail to). However, when I ask one of gmu.edu's name servers directly (thalassa.gmu.edu), I do see MX records. Our other name server (ns0.samsungcontact.com) shows an A record but no MX records and a slightly different set of NS records. I think gmu.edu's DNS is not well.


You could try editing your resolv.conf after you've connected to use the other ISPs name server to work around the problem. Or set your name server to 129.174.1.3 (thalassa.gmu.edu), but that might not work since I can't look up google.com on that which probably means that they've disabled recursive queries.
